This week's Quickie Video isn't really quick (the video is almost 15 minutes) but it is awesome!!
One of the questions I get asked all the time is HOW do you cut cardstock so well? Now as I have been a demonstrator for almost 17 years, it comes naturally to me at this point, but I wish I knew what I was sharing with you years ago! I will continue to share these types of tips, too, because no matter how far into your stamping (whether you are brand spanking new or you've been stamping even longer than me,) I think this video has a lot of great tips and value! You are welcome!! I apologize there was no dancing in this video--in an earlier take there was but it ended up getting cut--it was a day of technical challenges bringing this one to you! :)
Here are the different card pieces and the corresponding cards I showed in the video:
This is a basic card--a half sheet of cardstock folded. I used Pear Pizazz on this beautiful Acorny Thank You Card, embossed the Woodland Folder and punched a 2 1/2" circle for the acorn to sit in and I love how simple and easy it is!
Layer B is what was on the inside of the acorn card. It is also the top layer of this Clean and Simple Thanks card.
Layer C creates a "skinny" layer when combined with Card A and Layer B. Check out the difference it creates by adding that extra piece! (C is the white layer, B is the Watermelon Layer and A is the white folded card):
Can you see the difference!!
How about now!?
Same combo: Card A is in Pool Party, Layer B is in Crumb Cake, Layer C is in Very Vanilla. Isn't this card beautiful? I love the color combo and the different textures--some white embossing, some sponging, some punches, a wood embellishment and some gold metallic thread--what more could you need? :) This would be cause for a happy dance!
To adhere all these elements, I used Fast Fuse to attach the Crumb Cake snoflake to the card. I also used it to attach the wood snowflake to the two snowflakes that it is sandwiched between. I put some on the back of the greeting and stuck the thread I wound to the back and then popped that layer up on the pool party (smaller punched) snowflake. Some great dimension and texture!!
Same concept--totally different card look! Folded Card A is Smoky Slate, Layer B is Daffodil Delight, and Layer C is whisper white.
I stamped the chevron border several times in Smoky SLate and added the Thank You (from One Big Meaning) on top in Basic Gray. The flowers are just punched in white and stamped in daffodil. It is actually a variation of a card I did earlier this week in polka dots and aqua shades!
A button and some ribbon and the card is complete!! LOVE IT!
The last card I showed is perfect with for using the left over scraps from cutting down your layers! Once again, The folded card A is in Pear Pizzazz, the Layer B is in Black and Layer C is in White.
The flag is super cute and easy with either the Bitty Banner Punch or the Triple Banner Punch. I curled it with my finger and glued the "flag" end down and popped up the "for you" end with a dimensional. Easy peasy!
The last layer I showed was D but I did not actually show a sample with it--I will have to come back and add one tomorrow! :)
This would be my industrial paper cutter! I invested in it almost 10 years ago--it was about $2000 back then! It has served me very well--but certainly is only for someone who is cutting some serious amounts of cardstock! While this is way beyond what the average crafter needs, I thought you may like to see it! :)
Now I hope that this has inspired you to create some cardstock layers in a basket for your crafting table. They are so handy to keep on hand and make stamping really quick! If you need to order some cardstock, I've listed all the products I showed you below--the list looks long but I showed quite a few cards!!
